PROGRAM INFO: The Enduro Team will strengthen and progress advanced mountain bike skills to prepare the rider for Enduro, Downhill or other gravity focused racing. Practice sessions will work on body position, braking, descending, technical features and cornering at speed on advanced terrain. Additionally, coaches will introduce concepts of gravity racing including track walks, feature inspection, line selection, visualization and video review. A logical and methodical process is used to minimize risk and emphasize safety first.
Please note: Enduro racing requires a fairly high level of fitness and the Grand Valley has very few, if any, trails that are solely downhill. As a participant in this program, you WILL climb uphill on your bike. Frequently. You are not expected to be the FASTEST up the hill, but the expectation is that you do not complain!
MINIMUM AGES: Riders in the Enduro Program must be in 6th grade in the 24-25 School Year or equivalent if home schooled.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:
MINIMUM ABILITY LEVEL:
GROUPS: For most practices, athletes will be split into groups of 6-8 riders with 1-2 coaches. Groups are formed based athlete age, ability, experience, social or family connections, group chemistry and many other factors. At times, the whole team may ride together dependent on the practice plan of the day.
LOCATIONS: Practices may meet at several different locations including Main Lunch Loop, Little Park Road or The Ribbon. Some practices may include "shuttling" to various trails. Coaches will communicate in advance all meeting locations and instructions.
DAY TRIPS: As the schedule allows, the Enduro Team may plan day trips to regional locations such as Snowmass, Moab, Purgatory, Glenwood or other potential training areas.
RACES: Participants in the Enduro Program are training to race. However, racing is NOT required. Nor is attendance at EVERY race.
Team riders are welcome to attend any race they wish. GVYC will provide coaching support at selected events throughout the region. There will roughly be one or two GVYC coach supported races in each stage for a total of 6-8 races during the entire program. Race series will include the Youth Enduro Series, Revolution Enduro or other regional events. The program culminates with the annual Grand Enduro at the end of September.
