PROGRAM INFO: Group rides and mountain bike coaching in a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment. This program builds a foundation for mountain biking and learning how to ride the technical trails in Grand Junction.

The GVYC High School Trail Rides and Skills program is for riders in grades 9 to 12. Our focus is coached group rides working on fundamental mountain bike skills and fitness development. GVYC has experienced and trained coaches ready to share their enthusiasm for mountain biking in a safe and engaging environment. 

  • Working mountain bike in good condition required, front and rear suspension highly recommended
  • Helmets required at all times
  • Flat pedals, knee/elbow pads are highly recommended. 

GROUPS: Athletes are placed into groups of 6-8 riders with 1-2 coaches. Groups are formed based athlete age, ability, experience, social or family connections, group chemistry and many other factors.

LOCATIONS: Practices may meet at several different locations. The first few practices meet at Wingate Elementary and ride the trails known as “Water Tower” or “Easter Hill" trail networks.  Some groups may ride the Lunch Loop trails based on experience and skill development  Coaches will communicate in advance as meeting locations may change throughout the season.
