We are excited for the 2017 season. We are expanding to a year round program. A van has been donated to Grand Valley Youth Cycling and will help us provide more opportunities to get more kids on bikes!
We embrace the vision to develop strong minds, bodies and characters by engaging young women and men in the challenging and exciting world of mountain biking.
The Colorado League was established in 2009 and is an associate of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association. Kate Rau, the state director, soon visited the Western Slope to spread the news of this exciting new high school sport.
The Grand Valley Composite team was established and competed in the fall of 2011.
In 2012 the State Championship race was hosted by our team and the race course was in the North Fruita Desert area.(click on the link to see a great video of the event!)
In 2013 we proudly earned the title of state champions among Division 2 teams (teams with eleven or fewer riders).
In 2014 there was enough growth in students from the Fruita school boundary area that, by league rules, we had to divide into two teams on race day.
2015 and 2016 were our years of GROWTH - we had over 30 high school student athletes with 9 girls on the team rosters. Our weekly middle school rides had at 12-15 students arrive ready and willing to learn new skills and explore new trails! Grand Junction High school proudly stood on the podium at 3rd place both in the conference and state championship races in 2016.
